How central Ohio wears on a garage door
Central Ohio is flat, and much of it sits on heavy clay soil left behind by glaciers. Clay holds water after a rain and heaves a little when it freezes, so a driveway apron or garage slab can shift over the years. When the floor under the door moves, the bottom of the door may stop meeting it evenly, and light or water can slip in at one corner. If you notice a gap like that, our guide to an uneven gap at the bottom of the door explains what usually causes it.
Winters here swing above and below freezing again and again rather than settling into one long deep freeze. That back and forth is hard on a door. Meltwater runs under the bottom seal, freezes overnight, and holds the door to the concrete by morning. Rubber seals stiffen and crack, and an opener pulling against a stuck door works far harder than it should. Our cold weather guide explains why you should not keep pressing the button.
Housing around Columbus covers a wide range. Clintonville, Grandview Heights, Bexley and other older neighborhoods have many homes with a detached garage at the back of the lot, some with doors that have been in place for decades. Out in Dublin, Hilliard, Westerville, Lewis Center and Pickerington, newer subdivisions lean toward attached two and three car garages that see daily use. Delaware and Union counties keep adding homes, and the first owner of a newer house may never have had the door looked at.
Farther out, the setting turns rural. Around Granville, Buckeye Lake, Hebron and the Hocking Hills edge of the region, many homes have long driveways and detached outbuildings, and summers bring humid heat with strong afternoon thunderstorms. Humidity works on steel hardware and wood doors alike. Once a year, a member visit goes over springs, cables, rollers and hinges and greases what moves. Springs and cables carry heavy tension, so leave any adjustment to a trained pro.

Why does my door stick to the floor on some winter mornings in central Ohio?
Snow and rain melt during the day, run under the bottom seal and freeze again at night, so the seal ends up bonded to the slab. Forcing it with the opener can tear the rubber and strain the motor. The yearly tune-up checks the door's balance and the opener's safety reversal and lubricates moving parts, so the door moves freely once it thaws.
I just bought a home in Dublin or Delaware County. Where do I start?
Most new owners have no idea when the door was last serviced. Joining puts a full tune-up and safety inspection on the calendar: springs and cables, rollers and hinges, lubrication, a balance test and an opener safety test. You also get priority scheduling and member savings on repair labor, with the price shown before any work begins.
How do I cancel if I move away?
There is no contract and no setup fee. Membership is billed monthly on the date you joined, and you can cancel anytime by email or by calling (877) 257-6027, with no penalty. If you are only moving across the Columbus area, check the new ZIP code with the checker first, since you may be able to keep your plan.
